Happy Halloween!

Costumes, candy, trick-or-treating, Halloween parties – What’s more fun? Halloween can be tricky, as it marks the start date of “sugar season” for many of us. Next, is Thanksgiving festivities and then rolling right into all the Christmas parties. Holy sugar season!

The good news is there are easy ways to handle the overload of Halloween candy for you and your kids, that won’t leave your family feeling deprived.
Crowd out the sugar: You’re probably wondering what in the world does that mean. It means don’t deprive yourself of all the goodies around you, however you will add more good nutritious foods into your life that will crowd out your sugar cravings. Before going out, fill your plate with veggies, healthy proteins and fat, along with drinking plenty of water. You will find yourself not craving nearly as much sugar as you ordinarily would.  So, prioritize adding good foods, before you worry about foods you shouldn’t be eating.
Get rid of the excess candy: If you have candy leftover from your tricker treaters, just get rid of it. If it’s not in your house, you won’t cave from the intense temptation. If it’s not in your house, you won’t eat it. Allow your kids to have a few pieces, then swap it out for something healthy. For your older kids, maybe let them swap out for a gift card of some sort. The key is swapping out for a healthy alternative, so your child doesn’t feel they are missing out or deprived.
Focus on fun activities: There are so many wonderful actives, beyond the candy. Carving pumpkins, visiting haunted houses, a trip to the pumpkin patches, watching scary movies with the family – these are are fun memorable impactful events for family that you will remember always. Make memories!

I am wishing you a fun Healthy Happy Halloween! Enjoy this amazing time of year.
